Slippery time

Why do I spend so much time in front of the TV set?

It seems I have nothing better to do, which is not true, but somehow this weekend I spent more time watching crappy movies instead of improving on my other projects, like this blog or my site. Or even my 9 years old “project”. Oh well…

I have to start keeping a to-do list and really do the things I put there. I have so many projects that I want to complete (or even start in some cases) that if I want to see them finished I really need to change. Hopefully this blog will help me keep in mind what I want to do and give me strength to go forth with whatever project I set my mind to.

A family motto

Some time ago I was watching Jon Stewart’s “The Daily Show”, the episode where he interviewed Michael Lewis, a non-fiction American author from New Orleans. The conversation was pleasant but I just laughed mao when, close to the end Michael Lewis said the Lewis Family Motto:

Do as little as possible, and that unwillingly, for is better to receive a slight reprimand than to perform an arduous task.

Just brilliant! I have no idea if this is really his family motto or if he just made that up for fun, but I had some good laughs.

Maybe if we spend less time performing “arduous tasks” and more time interacting with our closest friends and family, even if that meant receiving “a slight reprimand,” we would appreciate life a little better. It seems to me that I’m speaking directly to my own heart. Maybe, just maybe, I should replace the “we”s for “I”s…

First Stone

I decided to start this weblog to keep a record of my own random thoughts and erratic actions, in order to maintain a steady pace in the development of my constructed language(s) or conlangs, as well as to be able to evaluate my progress in the strange and passionate endeavour that is the learning of how to build a site from scratch (including the design and html/xml). Only with the precious help of some guys of the Language Creation Society, especially David, Sai and Henrik, I was able to put this site (which includes this blog you’re reading now) up and running. Bless you guys for all the patience and time you spent answering my dumb questions and requests.

I’ll try to update it as often as possible but won’t promise a thing. Posts will be written in English or Portuguese (yes, I’m Portuguese) or any other language in which I can reasonably express myself.
